Well, you have arrived at PCMech, formerly called PC Mechanic. Who the heck are we and why are we here?
PCMech is about computers and technology. We define “PC” a little more broadly. Yes, PC stands for personal computer. Much of our content is about personal computers. But, since we first launched, technology has evolved and now there is so much more to talk about than just computers. So, we cover technology. We cover the internet. We cover - yes - computers, hardware, software, etc.
Why is PCMech Worth My Time?
Because we like to think we’re a little different. We work to bring the world of technology to the “normal” people. Not geeks and nerds and people who understand all the technical stuff. We talk about the technical stuff, but we try our hardest to talk about it in a REAL fashion, from a practical perspective of a real-world user.
So, we don’t get overly technical unless we have to. We won’t waste your time with arcane benchmarks and trying to eek out 4 frames per second more out of a video card. These things aren’t really that important and there are other sites that already do that so well.
What is important? Bringing the world of technology to people who just want to use it.
Who is PCMech?
Yeah, good question. Well, the site was founded by David Risley, founder of PC Media. David is an internet publisher. He USES computers, but no, he doesn’t work on them for a living and never has. When this site was launched, David saw a glaring need for a plain-English site that showed people how to be self-sufficient with their own computers. Hence PC Mechanic was born and the name was thought to be apt.
Over time, David has brought on a team of writers, both regular and periodic, spread throughout the country. The industry has changed and so, then, has our scope for the word “PC”. Then, in 2008, we changed our site name to “PCMECH” and just made it official. Most everybody refer to us this way anyway.
Who is the PC Mechanic? That’d be you! Does it mean we’re all about showing you how to break out the screwdrivers and fix the innards of your box? Well, we do that, too. But, we also show YOU how to be self-sufficient in the world of technology and, yes, PCs. In that way, you won’t ever need to hire a real PC Mechanic.
